Arizona Representative Paul Gosar announced on Friday that he is sponsoring a bill ( HR 4643) that would put a 10-year freeze on all immigration into the United States. The pause, he argues, is needed to help stem the current surge in illegal border crossings.

Rep. Gosar said in a statement:

We can’t have legal immigration when we have rampant illegal alien invaders. This is a threat to our national security and our economy and to our citizens.

The catalyst for Gosar’s initiative is undoubtedly the current crisis on the southern border, with the June apprehension numbers totaling 188,829, up from 180,034 in May.

Rep. Gosar rightfully blamed the spike on President Joe Biden and his administration, accusing them of “ignoring and actively assisting the violation of our federal laws,” claiming that the administration has “literally and figuratively opened the gates and is waving hundreds of thousands of criminals into our country.”

Since January, President Biden has reversed several effective immigration policies used by his predecessor to stem border surges including overturning the Migrant Protection Protocols and safe third country agreements.

Rep. Gosar explained:

With the destruction of President Trump’s solid immigration enforcement, and current disregard and violation of existing federal law, Mr. Biden has unleashed the most severe border and humanitarian crisis in United States history.
